Interlibrary Loan Services

Interlibrary services are used to get items from other libraries.

Use Prospector to request materials from Colorado Libraries.

  1. Prospector is the fastest way to get what you want from Colorado, Wyoming and Missouri (Mobius) libraries.
  2. Use your Boulder library card to create a hold on what you need.
  3. In most cases, your items will arrive within a week from our library partners.

Use WorldCat via FirstSearch to request things you can't find in Prospector.

For Articles use the box to the right.

To make an Interlibrary Loan request:

  1.  WorldCat (in library link). Remote access requires a Boulder Library Card number.
  2. Find the item you want to borrow. Click on the title to bring up a new window.
  3. You'll see an ILL (Interlibrary Loan) button on the upper left of the navigation bar.
  4. Clicking this button will bring up an online form.
  5. Fill out the form completely.
  6. In most cases, your items will arrive within two or three weeks.

Interlibrary Loan Policies

  • Required: a valid Boulder Public Library card, Boulder County residency and fines/fees not exceeding $10.
  • There is a limit of 5 transactions. This includes items checked out and in process.
  • Loan periods vary, but usually conform to our local period of three weeks (except DVDs, which check out for two weeks).
  • Materials borrowed through Interlibrary Loan should be returned to the desk from which they were picked up. Please do not return Interlibrary Loan materials in any of the book returns.
  • Fines are the same as for Boulder Public Library materials: $.20/day for books, music and audiobooks, $1.00/day for DVDs and VHS. Charges for lost items vary because they are set by the lending libraries. Fines and lost charges will be added to your Boulder library account.
  • The majority of ILL transactions are free. 5% of transactions will have costs between $8.00 and $30.00. These charges must be paid whether or not the item is picked up. Please indicate your willingness to pay when placing the request. The costs will be added to your library account.
  • Please note that we are unable to borrow from international libraries.
