Rebecca recommends Treaties, Trenches, Mud, and Blood by Nathan Hale

The
Hazardous Tales series is great for reluctant readers who are interested in American history, graphic novel aficionados, and anyone who wants to be entertained while learning about past events. Although it's a broad topic to tackle, this volume succinctly discusses the causes, developments, and after-effects of World War I. Nathan Hale presents historical events in a way that is appropriate for children in grades 3-7, and even amusing at times, but doesn't sugar-coat the harsh realities that people experienced. The art style is clear and detailed, with minimal color to add emphasis without distraction.
Publisher's description:
World War I set the tone for the 20th century and introduced a new type of warfare: global, mechanical, and brutal. Nathan Hale has gathered some of the most fascinating true-life tales from the war and given them his inimitable Hazardous Tales twist. Easy to understand, funny, informative, and lively, this series is the best way to be introduced to some of the most well-known battles (and little-known secrets) of the infamous war.
