Ending support for OverDrive's desktop apps and website MP3 downloads
On November 13, 2024, OverDrive will retire the MP3 audiobook format from OverDrive library websites and end support for OverDrive's desktop apps for Windows and Mac (which only work with MP3 audiobooks).
After this change, you can listen to audiobooks using the following options:
- In Libby (available for Android, iOS, or Amazon Fire devices or at libbyapp.com in a web browser)
- On your library's OverDrive website using the Listen now in browser option
- In the OverDrive app (only available in select countries)
We at Boulder Public Library know this will impact many of our patrons' enjoyment of the MP3 format as a way to listen to their favorite audiobook. We have voiced our dismay to OverDrive that they no longer support this format, and encourage patrons to do the same. Please reach out to library staff if you need assistance in adopting the format options that are now available.

Questions about the daily budget limit:
"I get a message saying "The collective daily borrow limit set by your library has been reached and will reset at midnight. Please browse and add titles to favorites so you can easily access them after midnight."
Meaning: This is different from your monthly borrows. This is your library's daily budget and means that the daily budget for your library has been depleted for the day. The budget resets at midnight local time. Limits are in place as an effort to give everyone equal access as best we can.
