Cover ArtLiz Moore's Long Bright River is a propulsive tale of sisters on different paths in a struggling area of Philadelphia, a police officer and an addict. A duality of good and bad is woven through the plot: life choices, crime, policing, parenting. This is a harrowing but redemptive whodunnit.

Publisher's description:
In a Philadelphia neighborhood rocked by the opioid crisis, two once-inseparable sisters find themselves at odds. One, Kacey, lives on the streets in the vise of addiction. The other, Mickey, walks those same blocks on her police beat. They don't speak anymore, but Mickey never stops worrying about her sibling. Then Kacey disappears, suddenly, at the same time that a mysterious string of murders begins in Mickey's district, and Mickey becomes dangerously obsessed with finding the culprit, and her sister, before it's too late.

Cover ArtIf you like murder mysteries and fantasy, this book might be right up your alley. The characters are well-rounded and the world building feels truly unique, both of which support an intricate and satisfying mystery. If you prefer audio over text, the audiobook version has a top-notch narrator. I can't wait for more mysteries with Ana Dolabra and Dinios Kol!

Publisher's description:
In Daretana’s greatest mansion, a high imperial officer lies dead—killed, to all appearances, when a tree erupted from his body. Even here at the Empire’s borders, where contagions abound and the blood of the leviathans works strange magical changes, it’s a death both terrifying and impossible. Assigned to investigate is Ana Dolabra, a detective whose reputation for brilliance is matched only by her eccentricities. Rumor has it that she wears a blindfold at all times, and that she can solve impossible cases without even stepping outside the walls of her home. At her side is her new assistant, Dinios Kol, magically altered in ways that make him the perfect aide to Ana’s brilliance. Din is at turns scandalized, perplexed, and utterly infuriated by his new superior—but as the case unfolds and he watches Ana’s mind leap from one startling deduction to the next, he must admit that she is, indeed, the Empire’s greatest detective. As the two close in on a mastermind and uncover a scheme that threatens the Empire itself, Din realizes he’s barely begun to assemble the puzzle that is Ana Dolabra—and wonders how long he’ll be able to keep his own secrets safe from her piercing intellect.

Cover ArtGreenglass House by Kate Milford is so cool because it’s like going on a huge adventure full of mysteries, puzzles, and even a little bit of ghostly magic! The story is about a 12-year-old boy named Milo who’s hoping for a quiet holiday at this super old and creepy inn called Greenglass House. But when a bunch of weird guests show up, everything gets way more exciting. The house itself is kind of spooky, but in a fun way. It has hidden corners, secret rooms, and hallways you’d never expect. Some doors even seem to move on their own, making you feel like the house is alive and hiding something.

Cover ArtThe Bletchley Riddle is a historical fiction book about Bletchley Park, a code breaking operation in England. The story follows Jakob and Lizzie. Jakob is a mathematician who was recruited to join the code breaking team at Bletchley Park to help break the enigma machines, a code making device used by the Germans in World War II. Lizzie is determined to find out what happened to their mother; she doesn't believe that she's really dead. This book is amazing and might be my favorite piece of historical fiction I've read. It has facts about World War II and even has some characters who actually existed. I've read other books by one of the authors, Ruta Sepetys, and they were also really amazing. So, if you're looking for a historical fiction book to read, I highly recommend The Bletchley Riddle.

Cover ArtThe Naturals is an amazing book series that is four books long. It follows teenager Cassie Hobbes, who has a gift for figuring people out with just a glance. The FBI asks her to join a group of teenagers with other impressive gifts who are tasked with solving cold cases. This series was really fun to read and has amazing characters (it even starts in Colorado!). It was fun trying to solve the mysteries and cases with Cassie and her friends. I highly recommend it to anyone who's looking for a new book and likes mystery.

Cover ArtThis is a delightful book that has it all--romance, mystery, comedy and psychic ability! Riley Thorn is so fun to read and her family, friends, and housemates are all characters I want to learn more about. The Dead Guy Next Door is the first in a series and I can wait to dive into the next!

Publisher description:
A nice, normal life. Is that too much to ask? For Riley Thorn it is. Divorced. Broke. Living with a pack of elderly roommates. And those hallucinations she's diligently ignoring? Her tarot card-dealing mom is convinced they're clairvoyant visions. Just when things can't get worse, a so-hot-it-should-be-illegal private investigator shows up on her doorstep looking for one of her neighbors…who turns up murdered. Nick Santiago doesn't play well with others. Unless the 'others' are of the female persuasion. Wink. He's a rebel, a black sheep, a man who prefers a buffet of options to being stuck with the same entrée every night, if you catch his drift. When the pretty, possibly psychic Riley lands at the top of the list of suspects, Nick volunteers to find out whodunit. Only because he likes solving mysteries not because he wants to flex his heroic muscles for the damsel in distress. All they have to do is figure out who pulled the trigger, keep a by-the-book detective with a grudge at bay, and deal with a stranger claiming he was sent to help Riley hone her psychic gifts. All before the killer discovers she's a loose end that requires snipping.

Cover ArtMurdle is a fun series where you use deductive reasoning to solve murders. It is set up as 100 puzzles that slowly form an overarching story. It's quite simple to learn how to do and can be hours of fun. There are three books in the series, so far, with an additional shorter book that recently came out. The story follows Deductive Logico as he solves all kinds of murders and mysteries. It is a really great series and I highly recommend to read and complete at least a few puzzles.

Cover ArtThe Inheritance Games is honestly an amazing book. It is the first book of a trilogy and follows Avery Kylie Grambs, a normal teenager who was given a billionaire's entire fortune. Avery has to stay in the billionaire's house for a year to gain the money. The only problem with that is that the other residents of the mansion aren't exactly happy at her being left the money instead of them. This book completely blew away my expectations. The chapters are short, grab, and keep your attention, with plot twists and puzzles that keep you guessing. Aside from the main trilogy there are some other books in this world such as The Brothers Hawthorne (two short stories about some of the Hawthorne brothers) and The Grandest game (The start of a new series or trilogy that is every bit as interesting as the first). Another collection of short stories is coming out later this year. Overall, this book is amazing and if you are looking for a new series to read, read this.

Publisher's description:
Avery Grambs has a plan for a better future: survive high school, win a scholarship, and get out. But her fortunes change in an instant when billionaire Tobias Hawthorne dies and leaves Avery virtually his entire fortune. The catch? Avery has no idea why -- or even who Tobias Hawthorne is. To receive her inheritance, Avery must move into sprawling, secret passage-filled Hawthorne House, where every room bears the old man's touch -- and his love of puzzles, riddles, and codes. Unfortunately for Avery, Hawthorne House is also occupied by the family that Tobias Hawthorne just dispossessed. This includes the four Hawthorne grandsons: dangerous, magnetic, brilliant boys who grew up with every expectation that one day, they would inherit billions. Heir apparent Grayson Hawthorne is convinced that Avery must be a con-woman, and he's determined to take her down. His brother, Jameson, views her as their grandfather's last hurrah: a twisted riddle, a puzzle to be solved. Caught in a world of wealth and privilege, with danger around every turn, Avery will have to play the game herself just to survive.

Cover ArtAgnes Sharp and her comrades band together in their "sunset years" to deal with the world, their ailments, and each other remarkably. Some shun their scandal. The police don't see past their aged exterior despite their lethal skills. Narrator Moira Quirk adds great personality and tempo to the story.

Publisher description:
It has been an eventful morning for Agnes Sharp and the other inhabitants of Sunset Hall, a communal home for the old and unruly in the sleepy English countryside. Although they have had their share of issues (misplaced reading glasses, conflicting culinary tastes, mobility issues, and unruly grandsons), nothing prepares them for an unexpected visit from a police officer with some shocking news. The body of one of their neighbors was discovered earlier that morning on the lawn. The members of the house put on long faces when the officer begins asking questions, but they are secretly relieved the body in question is not the one they're currently hiding in the shed (sorry, Lillith). After holding an emergency house meeting, they decide that the answer to their little problem with Lillith may have fallen right into their lap. All they have to do is find out who murdered their neighbor, so they can pin Lillith's death on them, thus killing two (old) birds with one stone (cold killer). With their plan sorted, Agnes and her geriatric gang spring into action. After all, everybody likes a good mystery. Besides, the more suspicion they can cast about, surely the less will land on them. To investigate, they will have to leave their comfort zone and journey into the quaint village of Duck End and all around town as they tangle with sinister bakers, broken stairlifts, inept criminals, local authorities, and their own dark secrets.

Cover ArtThis book sucked me in with the first sentence and pulled me through to the last word. Interesting layered characters navigate complicated community relations in small East Texas towns. Texas Ranger Darren Matthews investigates two murders, encountering racially motivated roadblocks.

Publisher description:
When it comes to law and order, East Texas plays by its own rules--a fact that Darren Mathews, a black Texas Ranger, knows all too well. Deeply ambivalent about growing up black in the lone star state, he was the first in his family to get as far away from Texas as he could. Until duty called him home. When his allegiance to his roots puts his job in jeopardy, he travels up Highway 59 to the small town of Lark, where two murders--a black lawyer from Chicago and a local white woman--have stirred up a hornet's nest of resentment. Darren must solve the crimes--and save himself in the process--before Lark's long-simmering racial fault lines erupt. A rural noir suffused with the unique music, color, and nuance of East Texas, Bluebird, Bluebird is an exhilarating, timely novel about the collision of race and justice in America.
